NGC891 is an edge-on galaxy, meaning from our perspective, the galaxy is rotated in just the right way for us to see directly onto its edge. Galaxies are formed kind of like a disc or a CD which lets them appear like a line in the sky when seen edge-on. The same also happens with the milkyway iif you see it in the sky.
NGC891 is located roughly 27 Million light years from earth.
In the left part of the photo lays the galaxy cluster Abell 347. These galaxies are over 240 Million light years away from us!
